7kW EV Charger

An EV 7kw charger refers to an AC charging device for electric vehicles with a rated power of 7 kilowatts. It converts the household's 220V AC power into DC power, and then charges the electric vehicle battery because electric vehicle charging must be completed in a DC state.

Application Scenario: Mainly used for home nighttime charging, and also commonly used in some office buildings, hotels, and other places with long parking times.

The working current of an EV charger 7kw is about 32 amps. Formula: Power = Voltage × Current, P = U × I, 7000W/220V≈31.82A, take the standard specification 32A. This is calculated under the condition of single-phase AC 220V. If it is three-phase electricity, the current will be different.

Different brands and models of electric vehicles have different battery capacities. I will take the common household electric vehicle BYD Seal as an example.

Let me first talk about the basic calculation logic. Charging time = battery available capacity (kWh) ÷ charging power (kW) × conversion efficiency coefficient (Usually between 0.9-0.95) + trickle charging time (terminal slow charging protection battery).

BYD Seal reference data: Take the 61.4 kWh battery version as an example. In order to know the longest time, I temporarily take the conversion efficiency coefficient as 0.9. Therefore, the theoretical time calculation is about 61.4 kWh ÷ 7 kW × 0.9 ≈ 9.75 hours.

Of course, the actual charging time must be shorter than this. On the one hand, the conversion efficiency coefficient of the TKT® EV 7kW charger is 0.94. The reason why we did not pursue 0.95 is that the extreme pursuit will lead to a significant increase in costs. From the perspective of actual electricity savings, it is not cost-effective. On the other hand, we won't actually drain the batteries in our electric cars.

First of all, for the safety of you and the product and to enjoy the manufacturer's warranty, TKT strongly recommends that it be installed by professionals.

The usual steps are as follows:

1. Customers need to equip themselves with a dedicated power switch (MCB, RCCB, SPD, etc. that meets the standards) and communicate with the property to obtain permission.
2. Telephone communication before installation to ensure that the construction standards are met, and the 7kw EV charger installation team arrives at the site for electrical exploration.
3. Choose the installation location: close to the vehicle charging port, solid wall, away from flammable and explosive materials, dry and ventilated environment, avoid sun and rain

11kW EV Charger: usually requires three-phase power (such as 380V), has special requirements for power supply conditions, and is faster than 7kw AC EV charger.

22kW EV Charger: Like 11kw, it has special requirements for power supply conditions. This is the highest charging power of AC chargers.

DC Fast EV Charging Station: The charging scheme used by this type of charger is different from the previous ones. It directly completes the conversion of AC to DC in the charger. Therefore, it can achieve faster charging effects, such as 60kW, 120kW, 180kW, or even higher.

The essence of 7kw and 22kw chargers is the same, both are AC EV chargers. The difference between them is the different requirements for power supply conditions. The internal configuration is different, and the charging speed is different.

The 7kw EV home charger only needs a single-phase 220V power supply line (which can be used from the household power line).

The requirements of the 22kW EV charger are complicated and must use three-phase 380V AC and the corresponding meter, switch, and cable (usually need to apply to the power department).
